The Scout Screen is the main workspace in ScoutIQ 2. When you scan a barcode, this screen displays profitability estimates, market pricing, demand metrics, and competition data to help you quickly decide whether a book is worth purchasing.
Purchasing Recommendations
The ScoutIQ 2 Scout Screen provides you with three easy to understand purchasing recommendations:
Accept:
Accept (Restricted by Amazon):
and Reject:
Item Details
Below the purchase recommendations you will find a thumbnail of the item you have scanned along with the Title, the item's weight, its ASIN, and its category:
Important Note:
To conserve space in the database, results retrieved from the database do not include a thumbnail image. All pricing, sales, and offer data remain fully available.
Profitabiity Overview
Below that you can find Target Price (also known as List Price), Buy Cost, Profit:
Target Price (List Price)
The Target Price is the offer selected by your Smart Triggers and used to evaluate profitability. This is also the price highlighted in black on the Scout Screen.
Buy Cost
Buy Cost represents how much you are paying for the item. Tap this field to change the cost using the keyboard.
Profit
Profit shows your estimated earnings after Amazon fees and shipping costs.
Green indicates the item is profitable.
Red indicates the item is not profitable.
Tapping the profit value opens the Profit Calculator.
Key Sales Metrics
Next you will find key metrics for evaluating the profitability of the items you have scanned: eScore, Sales Rank, and Total Offers.
eScore: estimates how frequently a book has sold during the past 180 days. Higher eScores indicate faster-selling books.
Because it uses historical sales data, eScore helps smooth out the volatility of Amazon’s Sales Rank and provides a more stable view of demand.
Sales Rank: Amazon's Best Sales Rank (BSR) is a number Amazon that indicates the popularity of a product. Lower numbers mean more frequent sales. Commonly used to evaluate the demand for a book.
Total Offers: The total number of New and Used offers available for the item you have scanned helps you evaluate how much competition there is for this item.
Tapping the tool tip under each of the key metrics provides reveals helpful information about the item you have scanned.
eScore Visualization: A color-coded progress bar shows where a product’s eScore falls in the overall range.
Sales Rank Percentile: Instead of just a raw rank number, ScoutIQ 2 displays the product’s percentile within its category.
Offer-Based Analysis: We now display the total number of offers on a product, along with a visual indicator of competition.
Market Pricing
The next row showcases the Used Buy Box (usually the lowest used FBA offer from a reputable seller), the New Buy Box (usually the lowest new FBA offer from a reputable seller), and Amazon's price (if they are on the listing). These data points are incredibly helpful in figuring out if you can sell the book using FBA to earn a profit.
Competition & Restrictions
The section below this breaks down the number of Used and New offers for the item you have scanned. It also shows your Personalized Restriction Checks if you have paired your ScoutIQ 2 app with Amazon.
Tapping the Orange caution triangle on on a Used restricted item will show you which conditions you are restricted for:
Offers Columns
The majority of the Scout Screen in ScoutIQ 2 is made up of the offers section ScoutIQ original users are already familiar with. It is divided into four columns - two columns for used books and two columns for new books. All offers are shown using the book's "Landed Price", or the total list price including shipping. Whether a book is selling for $4.99 with free shipping or $1.00 with $3.99 shipping, it'll show up as $4.99 in the app. Every price is tappable and will update the Target Price and the Estimated Profit accordingly. The price will be highlighted in Black to show you which one is being used for the calculations.
Column #1 shows all used offers, regardless of fulfillment method (MF vs. FBA). If you're selling Merchant Fulfilled only, you are competing against all other offers, not just MF offers. That's why we show all data in the first column so you can make a smarter decision when purchasing the book, without looking back and forth between columns to see if there are potentially cheaper offers from FBA sellers. We show you the lowest 5 offers, the 10th lowest offer, and the 15th or 20th lowest offer, depending on the specific API call. By showing only these seven offers, you can easily see how much the prices "open up" or stay bunched together, and get a better feel for the market's current state. These seven prices also form the foundation for setting up your custom triggers.
Column #2 shows all used FBA offers. Roughly 50% of the time, there are zero offers, or only one offer visible in the lowest 15/20 offers, in which case this column will be blank. If you sell using FBA, you should look at this column first to see if there are competitive offers you can analyze.
Column #3 is identical to column #1, except it shows new offers 1-5, 10, and 15/20. In database mode, we only return the lowest new offer since Amazon has been requesting invoices and publisher receipts to sell books in new condition for some sellers. If you want to sell new books, simply tap the LIVE button to return all offers visible in the API.
Column #4 shows all new FBA offers. Again, in database mode, this column will always be empty in an effort to keep the database as small as possible. If you want to see data here, use live mode or tap the LIVE icon as needed. The New Buy Box will populate on books with a rank under 5 million in database mode, and this is usually the lowest New FBA offer, so you can use that to better gauge the market prices.
Wholesale Integrations
Wholesale Integrations display real-time buyback or consignment offers directly on the Scout Screen, allowing you to compare Amazon resale profits with guaranteed buyback payouts. When enabled in Settings, integrations such as World of Books and BooksRun display guaranteed cash buyback prices or estimated consignment payouts alongside standard Amazon profit data. This allows sellers to quickly compare options and decide whether to list the book on Amazon or accept a wholesale buyback, offering a fast and convenient alternative for books that may not be ideal for Amazon resale. The most lucrative offer is highlighted with a rainbow border.
Quick Actions & Research
The bottom row of the Scout Screen contains several tools designed to help you quickly research an item or take action on it.
ChartIQ
Tap ChartIQ to review the past six months of price history for the item. This allows you to see how the market price has changed over time and determine whether current prices are typical or temporary.
Live Lookup
The Live Lookup button retrieves real-time data directly from Amazon.
Because eScore and Amazon’s price are stored in a database that refreshes every 24 hours, those values may occasionally lag slightly behind current conditions. Live Lookup ensures that the item’s prices, Buy Box prices, Sales Rank, and trade-in values are as up-to-date as possible by pulling the data directly from Amazon’s API.
Scan Button
The red camera icon returns you to the scanning screen so you can continue sourcing items.
Buy List
The shopping cart icon opens the Add to Buy List workflow, allowing you to add the scanned item to your sourcing list.
Product Research Menu
The three-dot menu (kebab menu) opens additional product research tools.
These include:
Amazon Link
Opens the product listing directly on Amazon. Many books do not show Prime offers within the lowest 15–20 API results, so viewing the listing on Amazon allows you to filter by Condition and Delivery Method to see the true Prime competition.
BookScouter
BookScouter is a marketplace that aggregates buyback companies that purchase books and other media for cash.
Tapping this option shows current buyback prices for the scanned item and can help you decide whether it makes more sense to list the book on Amazon or sell it immediately for guaranteed cash.
If a Trade-in Value is displayed on the Scout Screen, it’s a good idea to check BookScouter as well to see whether other buyback companies are offering a higher payout.
Custom Links
Custom Links allow you to quickly open additional research sites. ScoutIQ provides several prefilled options including:
eBay Sold listings
eBay Active listings
Bookfinder.com
You can also create a custom link to open any site you prefer. These links can be configured in the Settings section of the app.
Request Amazon Approval
If you are restricted from selling an item, the Request Amazon Approval button allows you to request approval directly through Amazon Seller Central without leaving the ScoutIQ app.
Bottom Navigation
The final row of the scout screen is the navigation screen visible throughout the ScoutIQ 2 app. It includes:
The Home tab where you can find sourcing metrics, accepted scan history, and download your Accept List. The Buy List tab where you can add a new buy list, view purchased items, and explort a CSV of your Buy List and import it into InventoryLab for easy listing. The Scan tab which will bring you back to the Scout Screen after navigating away. The Triggers tab where you can select which Trigger Set you are using to evaluate profitability. And the Settings tab which allows you to configure how ScoutIQ 2 operates, including Amazon account connection, scanning modes, database downloads, No Offer Customizations, and Wholesale Integration management.
Together, these tools allow you to evaluate demand, pricing, competition, and profitability in seconds, helping you make faster and more confident sourcing decisions.
