For our LivePro Subscribers*, ScoutIQ offers three scanning modes found in the "Settings" section of the app, each with its unique pros and cons:
Database Only: This is our fastest scanning mode.
Put your phone in Database Only mode if you are scanning at a location where you do not have a strong Wi-Fi or cellular data connection or you don't want to pay for extra data charges.
Title Searches are unavailable in this mode.
It is the fastest way to scan, but though the database is updated regularly, this information is not live Amazon information.
Our database contains over 9 million books and media items in the U.S., making it the largest offline database of any scouting app. However, there are over 20 million books listed on Amazon, and new items are continually added. While our database is always expanding and retains information from scanned items, you may occasionally encounter the following screen:
This is where our Data + Live Scanning Mode comes in. This mode combines the speed of Database Only mode with real-time data from Amazon, ensuring that you can scan efficiently while filling in gaps in the database making it a versatile choice for all scouting conditions.
Data + Live: This mode combines the strengths of the other two scanning modes, for that reason it is our recommended scanning mode!
Data + Live offers the speed of scanning in Database Only mode but also provides you with access to current live information for books not found in our Database when a Wi-Fi or cellular data connection is available.
This scanning mode searches the database first and only proceeds to a "Live" lookup on Amazon when the item is not found in our ScoutIQ database.
Live Only: This mode provides the most current information available from Amazon.
Your scanning speed is dependent on the speed of your Wi-Fi or cellular data connection.
Put your phone in Live Only mode if you have a strong Wi-Fi or cellular data connection and you want the most current Amazon information.
Our app retrieves information for items currently listed on Amazon. If you receive below result, it means the specific ASIN or item is not currently found on Amazon's platform.
With any of the scanning modes, you can always look up live data for each book. Simply touch the LIVE icon on any scout screen to refresh the screen with real-time results.
*Important Note: This section will only appear on your app if you have a LivePro Plan ($44/month or $432/year). With a Live Plan ($14/month or $120/year) your phone will always be in Live mode.
