Amazon Restriction Checks in ScoutIQ 2

A detailed explanation of personalized restriction checks in the ScoutIQ 2 app and what they mean when scanning.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Amazon doesn’t allow every seller to list every product right away. Depending on your account status, selling history, and category requirements, Amazon may require approval before you can sell certain items.

ScoutIQ 2 makes restriction status easy to spot at a glance. Restriction results appear directly on the scout screen using:

  • color-coded banners, and

  • clear restriction icons (in the same general placement as the original ScoutIQ app)

Restriction Results in ScoutIQ 2

When you scan an item, you’ll see one of the following banners:

✅ Accept (Green Banner)

You’ll see:

  • Green “Accept” banner

  • Green checkmark icon in the Used column

Meaning: You’re eligible to sell this item (no approval needed).

❌ Reject (Red Banner)

You’ll see:

  • Red “Reject” banner

  • Green checkmark icon in the OR Orange caution triangle icon with an exclamation point in the Used Column

Meaning: The item does not meet your ScoutIQ settings (rank, triggers, profit, etc.).
This is not necessarily restriction-related.

⚠️ Accept but Restricted (Orange Banner)

You’ll see:

  • Orange “Accept but Restricted” banner

  • Orange caution triangle icon with an exclamation point in the Used Column

Meaning: The item meets your scouting criteria, but Amazon shows you are restricted and must request approval before listing.

Applying for Approval

At this time, ScoutIQ 2 can show restriction status while you scan, but approval requests must be completed in Amazon Seller Central. This video from Amazon, walks you through applying to sell a product, category, or brand.

What If Restriction Checks Stop Appearing?

Amazon periodically requires sellers to renew app permissions. If restriction checks stop showing, you may need to reauthorize ScoutIQ 2. This can be done directly in the ScoutIQ 2 app, by following the same steps you used to pair your Amazon Pro-Seller Account with ScoutIQ 2.

Reauthorize ScoutIQ in Seller Central

For ScoutIQ sellers, this isn’t always a deal-breaker. Most ScoutIQ users are sourcing books one at a time at thrift stores, estate sales, garage sales, and library sales—meaning replenishment of the same title is uncommon. Because of that, the risk is often much lower than in other Amazon categories. Buying a $3 restricted book that you plan to sell as a single copy is very different from applying to sell products in other categories where sellers may need to purchase large quantities for approval to be worthwhile.

If the cost is low—or if you have access to a wholesale offer through one of our wholesale integrations—it may still be worth purchasing the item and applying for approval later as you build your selling history with Amazon.
